For a buffet or a barbecue or any other type of party, fruits can be served in attractive designs. Here are a few simple ideas. First picture shows fruits on a cocktail stick, it is from my friend John. It makes serving fruits at a buffet or a BBQ so easy and it is very easy to assemble. Choose fruits of 3-4 different colours. You can add a selection of berries too, like strawberries, raspberries, blueberries etc.

The 2nd picture is of a decorative arrangement made by my daughter Kavita's friend Laura.

Pictures 3, 4 and 5 show ways to serve water melon.

If you have your ways of serving of fruits, feel free to share them with us all via the contact link.

Ingredients

  • A selection of fruit-see picture (melon, watermelon, mangoes, papayas, guavas, peaches, cherries)

  • Berries of choice (strawberries, raspberries, cape gooseberries)

Instructions

  1. Berries just need to be washed and allowed to dry on a clean towel for a few hours.

  2. Peel and cube/cut fruits into chunks.

  3. Thread fruit onto bamboo skewers in any nice colour combination. Place on a platter and cover with a cling film. Chill until you are ready to serve.

  4. You can make many pretty arrangements from fruits, see picture of one made by Laura Gosling. The fruits are on bamboo cocktail sticks. They have been inserted in a lump of cabbage placed inside a white, ceramic flower pot. You can use other vegetables for this, like a large potato or anything else firm.

  5. Watermelon doesn't have to be peeled necessarily. You can slice it in thick discs and then cut it into triangles, skin included. They are so much easier to eat this way at barbecues and picnics. See 3rd picture.

  6. You can make various sized balls from any soft fruits like melon, watermelon (picture 5), papaya and mangoes.

  7. Fruits cut into small pieces can be served in a wine glass, as individual portions.

  8. Fruit baskets; if you have fresh oranges, slices them in half, carefully remove flesh. Serve mixed fruits in orange baskets. Fruit baskets can be made with other, suitable fruits, like melons, pineapples etc.

  9. You can make pretty arrangements from prepared fruits on a large platter, keeping each fruit pile separate.
