Fruits Served With a Hot Dressing

EasyIndianMainStarter

This is a delicious dish, very quick and amazingly easy to make. You can make it with any fruit, here I have made it with pineapple. You can serve it as a starter, a spicy salad in a buffet or serve along side grilled meat/chicken/fish. Also see Fruit Chaat.

Ingredients

  • 400 gm fresh fruit like chunks of pineapple, apple, apricots, berries etc. You can have mixed fruit too.

  • For the Dressing;

  • 35 ml. good malt or wine vinegar. Dark vinegars will ruin the look!

  • 1 tsp. coarsely ground mustard seeds or ‘rai’

  • 1 tsp. salt, adjust to taste

  • 1/2 tsp. coarsely ground chillies or chilli powder, adjust to taste

  • 1 tsp. nigella seeds or kalaunji/kalownji

Instructions

  1. Prepare fruit and place in a bowl.

  2. Roast nigella seeds in microwave on full power for 4 minutes. This releases their nutty flavour.

  3. Place vinegar and all spices/salt in a small bowl and mix. Pour over the fruit and gently stir it. Keep in the fridge for 12-24 hours.

  4. Serve cold or at room temperature.

  5. Also see Salad Selection

  6. Pickle and Chutney selection.
