This is the simplest of salads, but crunchy and delicious. This is a popular way of serving salads in India, just with salt, pepper and lemon juice. Often other salad vegetables like tomatoes, mooli, carrots are also added to it and Chat Masala is used instead of salt and pepper. In cucumber season, you will fi8nd many street vendors selling the fresh cucumber salad, mixed with chat masala and lime juice, on the roadside.

Serves 2-4, depending on the size of cucumber.

Ingredients

  • Freshly ground black pepper*

  • Kala Namak (Indian black salt). If unavailable, use ordinary salt

  • 1/2 lime/lemon (Indian lemon is same as lime in UK)*

  • *You can use Chat Masala in place of salt and pepper. This will give it a more Indian taste.

Instructions

  1. Peel and slice cucumber into round slices.

  2. Arrange on a plate in circles.

  3. Sprinkle a little salt, fresh ground black pepper or chat masala.

  4. Squeeze and mix fresh lemon juice just before serving.
