Hi!

When staying in Mumbai for a couple of months I came across a, for me, new dish, veg makanwhala (I am not sure about the spelling). Which was truly amazing. Finding places who serve this dish has however been difficult, even in India. Does anyone have a recipe?

Sincerely, Anna

Hello Anna

Makhanwala means 'with butter', as in butter chicken, butter lamb. Makhan=butter, Wala=with or containing (Wala also has other meanings when used in other contexts). So, it will be a mixed vegetable curry, with a lot of cream or thick yoghurt or butter. Looking at google, these recipes look good, give one of them a try:

Madras (now Chennai) recipe; http://www.chennaionline.com/food/recipes/vegetablemakhanwala.asp

South Indian recipe;http://www.pachakam.com/recipe.asp?id=562

http://www.sanjeevkapoor.com/recipe/recipedisp.asp?rid=2736&cid=17

Tell me if you get the desired result.

Mamta
