Hello Serena

From the part of India I come from, the northern state of Uttaranchal, this is Tamarind Chutney with Banana. It is made at traditional Hindu festivals/weddings;

Saunth is also another name for dry ginger powder.

Then there is a south Indian drink called Saunth Panna, which has ginger powder, jaggery, lemon, black pepper etc. You will find recipes on line I am sure.

I can't imagine a drink, unless it is a soup, having onions and garlic.

I hope it helps you to find your father his drink.
